A CPCS Trained Operator (red) card is a stepping stone, not a destination — and it expires. To hold a Competent Operator (blue) card you need the matching NVQ, and that NVQ is assessed almost entirely through the work you already do.
Your assessor agrees the evidence with you up front, visits you on site, and builds the portfolio around live tasks. There is no need to take weeks out to sit in a classroom. Start it while your red card is still valid and the transition is seamless.

It depends on the machine, the site and the card you are chasing. Call us with your current tickets and the site rules you have been given, and we will tell you the shortest compliant route — including whether you need NPORS, CPCS or an NVQ.
A refresher or experienced-worker route on a single plant category is typically one to two days. Novice routes run longer because you are building operating hours. NRSWA operative units run over two to four days depending on the units chosen, and NVQs are assessed over weeks around your normal work.
If you are a CITB-registered employer, many of our courses attract grant support. KOPLANT is a CITB Training Provider Network member, and we will point you at the right grant codes and submit what we can on your behalf.
For centre-based training, yes. For on-site delivery we normally train on your own plant, which is usually better because candidates learn on the machines they will be operating day to day.
We will tell you honestly beforehand if a candidate is not ready, so this is rare. If it does happen, we arrange additional training and a retest at a reduced rate rather than putting you back to the start.
Yes. Individual bookings are welcome and we run them regularly. Group bookings work out cheaper per head, but we will never turn away a single candidate.
